Hundreds of mid-day meal workers from various districts gathered outside the office of the Director of School Education here to protest against the long-pending payments and increased salaries secured by the Congress in its 2024 manifesto.
Organized by the All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), hundreds of workers took to sloganeering as they recalled the Congress’ promise of a salary of ₹10,000 per month.

Expressing helplessness, the women workers said they continue to receive only about ₹1,000 as wages while their working hours and responsibilities have increased significantly. Several workers claimed their wages were due in eight to 10 months.
“It’s not a part-time job – we often finish around 3pm, but because the wages are not paid, we can’t even go back to work on the farm. The directors insist on a regular meal plan, but the workers are not paid,” said one of the protesters.
