
A passenger woman from Thailand gave birth to a boy on board Air India Express Medium Air to Bombai from Muscat, the airline said on Thursday.
In the Air India Expredd press release, she said that the boy’s delivery was made with the help of a nurses with a sister support, who was also among one of the passengers.
“The Thai National Woman gave birth to the air on board the air India Express from Muscat to Bombai. The child’s conductors were helped by the airlines with the support of the nurse among guests on board,” said Air India Express.
“When a Thai national went to work, the crew responded quickly – drew from her strict training to ensure a safe and compassionate environment for birth,” he added.
The pilots warned the air traffic control to ask for a priority landing in Mumbai, where medical teams and ambulances were prepared on arrival.
After landing, the woman and her child were immediately transferred to the nearby hospital for further care. It was accompanied by an employee of airlines to provide support.
Passengers moved and created a makeshift delivery room
According to The Hindustan Times, as soon as the 29-year-old entered work, the on-board crew jumped into the action.
Passengers were asked to move the armchairs, and the phones were postponed to protect the privacy of the mother and her child.
At 3:15, with stable hands and hearts full of hope, a boy was born to 35,000 feet.
As soon as the plane landed at 4:02 in the morning, a team of doctors threw the mother and the child to the nearby hospital.
“The Air India Express is in contact with the General Consulate in Thailand, Mumbai, to support the path of a woman and her child to Thailand,” Ai Express said.
“She did not have a visa for India and was planned to board the connecting flight with Bangkok at the same night,” HT said HT quoted the source, which added: “Nature had other plans”.
Details of the number of passengers in flight were not immediately available.
