Microsoft denied Wednesday that it claimed it uses customer data from Microsoft 365 applications, including Word and Excel, to train AI models.
After some users pointed out on social media that the company asked users to opt out of their “connection experience” feature, the response was conducted after that, and they believed that these features were used to train AI models.
“These claims are untrue. Microsoft does not use customer data from Microsoft 365 consumer and commercial applications to train the underlying big language model,” a Microsoft spokesperson said in an emailed statement to Reuters.
The spokesperson added that the “connected experience” implements features such as co-creation and cloud storage, and has no connection with how the company trains its large language models.
Conversations on social media show that people still care about data that is used to train AI models without permission.
