Microsoft finally launched a side app for MacOS on Thursday. The Redmond-based tech giant has previously launched an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot app for iOS and iPados, and now Mac users will be able to access the app locally, too. Similar to OpenAI’s ChatGpt application for Mac, users can activate Microsoft’s AI Chatbot using shortcut commands. In addition to the Mac app, Windows Maker has updated the Copilot app for iPhone and iPad devices and has added several new features.
MacOS-launched Copilot application
In a post on X (formerly known as Twitter), Microsoft Copilot’s official handle announced the release of MacOS apps. AI-powered apps are free to download, but require MacOS 14 or newer Mac devices, with Apple’s M1 chipset or newer Mac devices. According to Verge, the app is currently available in Canada, the UK and the US and expands to other regions in the coming weeks.
The Copilot application is now listed on the Mac Store. The app page emphasizes the capabilities MacOS users will get, such as Dark Mode, quick-start shortcut commands, Think Think deeper modes, and the ability to generate images. MacOS applications also support computer vision and accept images as input.
Mac’s Copilot also has typical AI chatbot capabilities. Users can generate emails and papers, summarize large blocks of text, translate text, find query answers from the Internet, and talk to users. It also brings multi-modal features such as image generation, inline editing, storyboard generation, and options for uploading files. It is worth noting that the app is 18MB in size.
Microsoft has also updated the Copilot app for iOS and iPados, and added new features. When using an iPhone or iPad, users will now be able to log in to a copy using their Apple account. They will also be able to upload text or PDF files and ask questions about them. AI chatbots can also summarize content. According to Edge, the company also plans to publish the document summary feature to MacOS applications.
