In a recent podcast, Michelle Obama openly spoke about public reactions to her marriage with Barack Obama. On the episode of the Wild Card NPR broadcast 26 June shared how the small thing they say or quickly become news.
She joked about the legends of their breakup and said that people would panic just because they were not seen on daily nights.
Michelle laughed and said it wasn’t an “apocalypse” just because they didn’t share every moment online.
Now more open, Michelle accepts this new phase of life, while still facing the public’s constant attention at its private moments.
“You know, the fact that people don’t see me go on a date with my husband who sparks, rumors about the end of our marriage,” Michelle quoted the US.
“It’s like, okay, so don’t instagram not an instagram every minute of our lives. We’re 60 years old. We’re 60 and everyone … you just won’t know what we’re doing every minute of the day, do you know?” She added.
Michelle Obama skipped the inauguration of Donald Trump 20 January. Her office said she would not participate in the event, while former President Barack Obama did it.
This meant her second absence about the significant events concerning Trump, after Jimmy Carter’s funeral skipping Jimmy Carter on January. Her decision broke up with a tradition, as the former first ladies usually visit.
The absence caused rumors, especially the marital disagreement with Barack Obama, although some speculated the bitterness towards Trump.
Michelle later addressed it on her podcast “IMO” in April. She said it was a personal choice, not a reflection of her marriage.
“My decision to skip inauguration or my selection decision at the beginning of this year, which suited me, has encountered such mockery and criticism,” she said in April.
“People couldn’t believe I didn’t say for no other reason. They had to assume my marriage was breaking down,” she added.
