Cameron Green’s non-bowling was one of the mysteries of the match between MI and KKR on Sunday, March 28 during the IPL 2026 competition. Green bought KKR for Rs. 25.2 million and was expected to be Andre Russell’s replacement for the franchise.

Russell is the second-highest wicket-taker for KKR with 122 wickets to his name and Green has done well with the ball, picking 16 wickets in the 30 matches he has played. Still, I found it bizarre to see the Australian all-rounder not get the ball. In fact, Green has bowled just 7.1 overs in 7 matches this year.

Ajinkya Rahane has now explained why Green is still out of the question. KKR captain, after losing to MIrevealed that they had not yet received permission from Cricket Australia to release Green as a bowling option.
“That’s the question you have to ask Cricket Australia (Why Green can’t mix yet),” Rahane said.
“Once GREEN BOWLS, THE COMBINATION WILL BE DIFFERENT”
KKR bowlers were beaten by MI batsmen especially Ryan Rickleton and Rohit Sharma during the match. Varun Chakravarthy went wicketless conceding 48 runs in his four overs. Vaibhav Arora ended up conceding 52 runs in four overs and Blessing Muzarabani went for 34 in his three overs. The void of another option like Green was felt on the day and Rahane said that once the all-rounder started bowling, the combination would improve for Kolkata.
“I think when, hopefully, Green starts to bowl, the combination will be a bit different. We’ve got to see the balance at the moment, the guys who can bowl well for us, like I said, we’ve been batting really well, but finding balance with the ball is really important. So hopefully Green starts to bite early,” Rahane said.
KKR are without the services of Harshit Rana and Akash Deep for the season and Matheesha Pathirana is still not ready to play. Rahane backed an inexperienced bowling attack despite their coaching experience that came through the season.
“We batted really well but then it was a really inexperienced bowling attack, these guys will learn. I mean the game against MI, a strong batting line-up. Apart from Vaibhav, Kartik and Muzarabani, they are new to IPL again. Two experienced spinners, but I thought Mumbai Indians batted really well. So our bowlers will definitely learn,” Rahane said.
KKR will have to regroup quickly and return home to face SRH in their next match on April 2.
