Chennai Super Kings (CSK) is trembling at the edge of elimination from the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Crushing the nine bags for Indians in Mumbai (Mi) caused a serious blow to their completion in the first four. CSK, which is fighting at the bottom of the table with a sklicing clean run -1.392, now faces the task uphill to stay in rivalry for the first four.
One of their key concerns was their stunning power in powerplay. The days carefully keeping the goal soon to speed up in death are long gone. On Sunday, CSK managed only 48 runs in PowerPlay – on the pitch, offered by a little help. On the contrary, he plundered 62 without losing in powerplay.
The start was especially slow for CSK, with only eight runs scored in the first two breaks when the dough tried to assess the conditions and bowling attack me. Shaikh Rasheed tried to find his rhythm, although debutant Ayush Mhatre provided a short spark with a fast 32 out of 15 ballsThe damage was already caused. CSK again fell behind the early-this season with a well-known pattern.
“The car did not move the equipment”
The legendary cricket Sunil Gavascar did not stay in his criticism and sincerely stated that scoring on eight runs for more than in the modern T20 cricket is not good enough. While other teams regularly collect 80 to 90 runs in powerplay, Gavascar pointed out that Super Kings were constantly trying to move the gear and accelerate when it matters most.
“At the beginning, they got to eight runs in the first six breaks, which has not been possible in the last few seasons. Most teams, even if they lose three goals early, will still have a score of 50, 55, 60, 70, even 80,” Gavascar told Broadcast.
“This is what they are trying to do. As soon as they start doing it, it will be another team. Because you will have doughs like Shivam Dube and others coming in the last 10 to 12 exceeding and breaking it everywhere – and they will release a score of 200.”
“They are not nearby right now, and it is mainly because the first powerplay is simply not going – it’s as if the car didn’t move into the device,” Gavascar added.
“Now or never for CSK”
Until 2019, Chennai Super Kings has never been able to qualify for Play -off – a remarkable record that underlined their consistency and dominance in IPL. The year 2020, however, meant the beginning of the trend down, while CSK disappeared for the first four. In 2022 and 2024 they lagged again and if something extraordinary happens, 2025 seems to be watching the same disappointment for Mrs. Dhoni men.
Players’ injuries like Ruturaj Gaikwad and Gurjapneet Singh continued to derail their campaign, although they joined Mhat and Dewald Brevis. Since their victory over the Indians in Mumbai in Chepauk, CSK looked completely from the species. Their long -term strategy of reliance on seasoned veterans could not add this season and offered little in terms of impact or consistency.
Everything is not lost for CSK. There is still a flash of hope, because instead of play -off remains mathematically possible. Just last year, Royal Challengers Bangalore mounted a stunning comeback and won six consecutive matches to get an berth Play -off from a similar position. Chennai will seek inspiration from this turn when they prepare for a decisive clash with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) 25 April in Chepauk. With everything on the line, CSK still has everything to play.
