Mumbai Indians star batsman Rohit Sharma is scheduled to undergo a scan to assess the severity of his reported hamstring injury, Cricbuzz reported. His availability for Mumbai’s next match against Punjab Kings on April 16 will depend on the scan results.
Rohit suffered an injury during the MI chase in their loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore, they got out in the sixth through the second innings. He received medical attention from the Mumbai Indians physio before the first ball of the over, causing a long delay. Although he came back to face the next delivery, he could only defend it before getting injured and walking off the field. The results of the scan will clarify the extent of the injury.
Rohit had scored 19 runs off 13 deliveries before leaving the field on Sunday. No other information has been shared at this time other than confirming his hamstring issue.
“I’m not really sure yet — maybe it’s a little bit of a paralysis issue — but I can’t say for sure. I was in the dugout, so I don’t have a lot of information on that,” Sherfane Rutherford said during the postgame press conference.
ROHIT’S SEASON DATE IN IPL 2026
Rohit’s season so far includes 137 runs from four innings, including one fifty. He was in solid form before injury interrupted his rhythm. With Mumbai Indians having managed just one win in four matches, his presence is especially important given his vast experience having recently completed 15 years with the team.
During the match against RCB, Rohit also reached the milestone of 6000 runs for Mumbai Indians. If he were to miss the upcoming matches, MI might have to adjust their playing mix, something like that captain Hardik Pandya batted after the loss. Possibilities include bringing Quinton de Kock back to open alongside Ryan Rickleton, who has been in good touch this season.
Another option is to promote Suryakumar Yadav to opener, a role he has previously filled in the IPL for Mumbai Indians, scoring 441 runs from 12 matches at the position.
