As he recently fired 40 giant trees for expanding roads in the city and public outrage over it, the urban non -governmental organization MySore Grahakar Parishat (MGP) convened a meeting to develop strategies for tree protection.
The meeting is scheduled for Sunday from 16:00 and will be held in the MGP office at 6/1, Vivekananda Road, Yadavgiri.
Botanist S. Natesh, who is the author of the book Iconic Trees of India, published in 2024, will take part in a meeting and will come out with suggestions on how best citizens can combine on a common platform to prevent trees.
Tree protection reflector comes as a result of what environmentalists call “murder” more than 40 trees that have been in April for more than 40 years, along the Hyder Ali road.
The incident caused outrage and resulted in extended protests in the city, and activists also responded with a number of events, including candles vigil, drivers, online petitions and formal complaints about the main minister, Lokayukta, national green tribunal and deputy commissioner.
The Folk Union for civil freedom (PUCL), the Chapter of Mysuru, also wrote the Minister for Forests, Ecology and the Environment, Eshwar Khandre to change the 1976 tree protection law in an effort to strengthen the protection of trees. Exercise funded by the crowd also transplant a giant tree, which collapsed near the waterfront of the Kukkarahalli lake, emphasized by the growing involvement of the public in the environmental issues.
Although the Minister ordered an incident investigation and was looking for a message from the Commissioner’s representative, there were concerns that nearly 300 other trees were marked for felling to prepare a way for linear projects such as high -voltage cable drawing or expanding existing roads.
MGP said before the event that the dulling of trees should be the last option, after examining all alternatives for protection. The Group hopes that the Sunday meeting will serve as a platform to build a collective voice against unnecessary deforestation in Mysur.
The meeting will be led by Dr. NATESH, Head of retirement advisor from the Ministry of Biotechnology of the Indian Government. It should be noted that the type of plants, aponogeton Nateshii, was named after it.
