Meta says Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Facebook video ‘deleted by mistake’ restores post | Today’s news
Meta issued a press release on Tuesday revealing that the video message posted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Facebook had been removed due to an error and that it has now been restored.
“The content was removed in error and has since been restored,” a Meta spokesperson said in a statement.
Amid nationwide protests last week led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), Prime Minister Modi released a video message on July 23 in which he addressed the country’s youth as “friends” and said his government recognized the gravity of the situation and would introduce a new bill in the Lok Sabha to enforce tougher penalties for those involved in such crimes. He also said that fast-track courts would be set up to swiftly punish those involved in the paper leak.
The prime minister also said in the video that his government has ensured that the academic year of around 22 million students is not wasted due to the leak. He promised that “nothing is more important than the well-being and future of our youth”.
After the video was removed from Facebook, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) summoned the company’s global head of public policy, according to a PTI report.
Following Modi’s message, the Center introduced the Public Examinations (Prevention of Malpractice) Amendment Bill, 2026, which proposes tougher punishments for offenders, including jail terms of up to 10 years, increased fines and also setting up special fast-track courts to try offenses under the law.
The CJP called off the agitation on July 25 after former Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan resigned from the Cabinet. The government also reached a mutual agreement with the CJP and Sonam Wangchuk, agreeing to withdraw cases filed against protesters across the country. The government also said it would crack down on police intimidation and introduce tougher legislation on paper leaks.
The first week of the monsoon session of Parliament was also rocked by the issue, with opposition leaders insisting on a debate in Parliament on the paper leaks. Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi along with several MPs sat on a dharna near the Prime Minister’s residence to demand a discussion on the issue.

TMC MP Sougata Roy on Tuesday informed that the Lok Sabha will hold a six-hour debate on the anti-paper leak bill, which comes after the recall of the Speaker and cross-party discussions after Monday’s session.
“Chairman appealed; after discussions after yesterday’s session, it was decided that there will be a 6-hour debate on the new bill today,” Roy told ANI.
