
Five people, including two children, lost their lives when a private bus lit up in the area of Mohanlalganj early on Thursday morning, PTI reported the police. The incident occurred around 5:00 on Kisan Path, a key highway on the edge of Lucknow.
PTI announced that quotation sources said the bus was carrying approximately 80 passengers at that time.
The assistant of the police commissioner (Mohanalalganj) Rajnesh Verma said the bus was on his way to Delhi from Begusarai in Bihar when he suddenly lit.
“The initial investigation suggests that the fire could be launched due to a short circuit in the bus,” Verma PTI said.
Most passengers slept when the fire began. They spread quickly and five passengers – two women, two children and a man – could not get out in time and died. Several other passengers suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment, the police said.
Here’s what eyewitnesses say
According to eyewitnesses, the flames were visible from almost a kilometer. The bus did not stop immediately after the outbreak of fire, eyewitnesses said, PTI informed.
The firefighters arrived on the scene immediately and were able to bring the fire under control within 30 minutes.
Police found that the emergency bus exit door did not work and trapped passengers sitting at the rear of the vehicle.
The authorities initiated the investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
