Climatic activist Greta Thunberg and 11 more sailed to Gaza on Sunday on board Madleen, a ship operated by Floji Flotilla, a bold attempt to “interrupt the siege of Israel” of the war territory. The vessel left Catania, the port of southern Italy, and its aim is to provide humanitarian aid and focus on the deepening crisis in Gaza.
Thunberg, who spoke at a press conference in Catania before leaving, became emotional while describing the urgency of the mission.
“We do it, because no matter what chances we are, we have to try it,” she said, and Trewed.
“Because when we stop trying, it is when we lose our humanity. And no matter how dangerous this mission is, it is not as dangerous as the silence of the world in the face of a living genocide.”

Connection to Thunberg to Madleen is several remarkable characters, including actor Game of Thrones Liam Cunningham and French MP Rima Hassan, who is a Palestinian origin. Hassan was forbidden to join Israel because of her voice opposition to the Gaza War.
The previous attempt to help thwart the drone attack
This is the second recent attempt to achieve Gaza Freedom. After the conscience, another coalition vessel hit two drones in international waters near Malta, the May effort was abandoned. The group accused Israel of the attack.
The ongoing war and charges of genocide
The mission comes in the middle of the growing international concern over the conditions in Gaza. Almost 19 months after the conflict, the Ministry of Health of Gaza reports more than 52,000 deaths – mostly women and children – as a result of Israeli air strikes and ground attacks. Israel, who says his operations focus on Hamas militants, firmly rejects the accusation of genocide.
Israeli blockade and hostage crisis
Israel maintains its blockade and quotes pressure on Hamas to release the hostage accepted during an attack on October 7, 2023, in which 1200 Israelis and 251 were kidnapped. From now on, 58 hostages remain in captivity, of which 23 are considered alive.
“Breaking siege on the ground and sea”
Activist Thiago Avila stressed that this maritime effort is part of a wider movement that challenges blockade:
“We violate the siege of Gaza by sea, but this is part of a wider mobilization strategy that will also try to break the siege on the ground.”
He emphasized the upcoming global march to Gaza, who was prepared in Egypt in mid -June, where participants, including doctors, lawyers and media, try to reach Rafah to call off the offensive and reopening of the border.
Humanitarian crisis in Breaking Point
Despite Israel, he was slightly released by restrictions in mid -May, the UN assistance groups and the UN agencies warn that famine in Gaza. They quote Israeli politicians, injustice and looting as the main obstacles that help deliver 2 million Gaza populations.
Madleen cruise is expected to take about seven days – unless it is captured. The organizers claim that the mission is symbolic and urgent, focused on attracting global attention to the humanitarian disaster of the Gaza.
