Opposition members raised a number of questions about non-tariff barriers for Indian agricultural exports to European countries, including Great Britain, at the meeting of the Permanent Committee for External Affairs headed by the head of the Shashi Tharoor Congress on Wednesday (September 10, 2025).
This meeting on the “India-Europe Relationship: Possibilities and Calls” relationship comes the day before EU negotiators sit down with the Indian government to discuss the free trade agreement in India EU-India (FTA). The EU team is led by the European Commissioner for Trade Maros Sefcovice and the Commissioner for Agriculture Christophe Hansen will be in Delhi.

Mr. Hansen’s visit is essential because agriculture has been a problem for India and Europe. Both parties agreed to negotiate “dairy, sugar and rice” from agricultural trade.
Trade Minister Sunil Barthwal informed Members for more than two hours. Mr. Tharoor, who spoke to Hindu, described it as a comprehensive meeting. “There were several questions. Mr. Barthwal sincerely answered questions,” he said without getting into the details of interaction.
Both sides have several problems to be set off, especially the EU carbon boundary mechanism (CBAM) and other non -tariff barriers for Indian agricultural exports that limit India’s access. He learns that Mr. Barthwal said that India would emphasize the principles of a common but differentiated responsibility in development routes.
Mr. Barthwal, a member who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Mr. Barthwal, because of the upcoming negotiations, was very carefully formulated by his notes. “He assured us that all our concerns, especially our concerns about agricultural exports, would be solved,” the member said.
