Meitei killed the Kuki Civil Society Group to warn Meitei before starting their annual pilgrimage uphill, which lies in the district with Kuki control in the manipur conflict.
The Heitei Heritage Social Security Foundation (MHWF) said that MEITEIS from visiting the sacred hill Thangjing in the Churachandpur district is like preventing the Hinds from making a pilgrim on Mount Kailash in Tibet or making a mecca from the Muslim borders.
On 9 April, six Kuki organizations issued a statement asking that Ne-Tribal Meiteis did not exceed the “bumper zone” between the two communities for Cheirao Ching Kabo, the annual ritual in mid-April, which became the Thangjing hill as part of the Cheiraob, Meitei New Year.
The distress zone is a narrow stripe separating the Imphal valley Meitei from low hills, especially inhabited trunks Kuki-Zo-Hmar.
“Denying the Rights Meitei”
The Foundation said the pilgrimage to the Ibudhou Thangjing, the sacred shrine on the hill falling into the forests of the protected Churachandpur-Khoutoum, was a centuries old religious practice of Meiteis.
Kuki said any attempt to meiteise to a trek in Thangjing would be considered a “direct provocation” until a political settlement for Kuki-Zo people was achieved under the Constitution. They added that those who carry out a pilgrimage will be responsible for any consequences of their actions.
“This is an obvious attempt to deny Meiteis their fundamental rights to religious practice and freedom of movement,” MHWF said in his statement 11 April.
“Repeated provocations”
In the past, Kuki accused the group of similar provocations, including the desecration of Thangjing, building a Christian cross in January 2024 and an alleged attempt to rename the hill. He claimed that such actions were designed to cause violence and derail the peace effort initiated by the Ministry of the Interior of the Union.
The foundation urged the authorities to take a decisive step and state that further delay would encourage extremist elements and deepen the municipal abyss.
More than 250 people died and about 60,000 were displaced in the conflict between the Meitei and Kuki-Zo communities, which in May 2023 broke out in manipuro. The state has been relatively peaceful since February in February.
Violence against girls and women
Meanwhile, the Rights authority has identified growing violence against girls and women in the restrictive district of Churachandpur, which has been concerned since March by the violence of inter-annue.
The Kuki Women Organization for Human Rights condemned the rape and murder of a young woman in the village in the district of Thanlon Subdivision 11.
“We are deeply concerned about the ongoing increase in such crimes. A thirteen -year -old girl has recently been murdered, and another rape case (ten -year -old girl) was reported in the district,” said Kimnei Lhungdim, Secretary General of the organization.
In March, a 9 -year -old girl was found dead near the relief camp for internally displaced people in the Churachandpur district. Marks of neck injuries.
