Mega cleanup drive attracts mass participation
As much as 52,318 kg of garbage was removed from 883 places in Kozhikode district in a major clean-up organized by the local self-governing institutions under the ‘Kaiyyodu Kai’ campaign on Friday (October 2).
18,318 volunteers, including elected representatives, government officials, students, members of various organizations and volunteers from various walks of life, took part in the clean-up activities, according to the tax authorities.
The event was accompanied by educational programs aimed at promoting responsible waste management among the public. The campaign also included special grama sabhas, competitions for school students and other awareness activities.
The initiatives were aimed at strengthening public participation in waste management, keeping public spaces clean and discouraging littering in public places. The volunteers were led by the heads of various local government institutions.
