
A group of eight moderate Democrats agreed Sunday to end the government shutdown without a guaranteed extension of health care subsidies, angering many members of their caucus who say Americans want them to continue the fight.
That ended a now 40-day shutdown that has grounded federal workers, delayed food aid and snarled air travel. The House passed a bill that would be amended to fund the government through January 30 and include a package of three annual appropriations bills.
The vote to advance the bill passed 60-40, the minimum needed to overcome a filibuster in the Senate.
