After completing their education, medical students should reach out and serve the poor by working in government healthcare, said Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare Minister Satya Kumar Yadav.
The minister, who attended the Freshers’ Day program for the batch of 2025 at the Dr. Institute of Medical Sciences and Research on Monday (December 1, 2025). Pinnamaneni Siddhartha in Chinavutapalli, Krishna district, recalled how his sister wanted him to become a doctor and how he became the health minister instead.
He noted with concern that values are declining in a profession that commands the utmost respect from people. The minister urged the medical students to study diligently with dedication. Doctors will be respected only when they work with the values of humanity and service, he said.
Later, the minister criticized the YSRCP government and said that many government medical colleges inaugurated with much publicity were left with inadequate facilities. Of the sanctioned ₹8,500 crore, the previous government spent only ₹1,550 crore, he said.
Unlike the previous government, the TDP-led NDA government had prioritized improving infrastructure, he said, adding that it was for this reason that the government proposed a public-private partnership model for running medical colleges.
