Medical negligence suit against Kozhikode MCH

Relatives of a Vadakara woman who allegedly died due to complications following a hysterectomy at the Government Medical College Hospital (MCH), Kozhikode, have accused the hospital authorities of medical negligence.

49-year-old Thankamani was admitted to the hospital on October 5 and the operation was performed at the Institute of Maternal and Child Health, which is part of the hospital, three days later. She was transferred to the ward on October 9. However, she developed a fever and started vomiting blood the next day, relatives claimed.

The scanning procedure reportedly revealed an injury in the intestine. Although another operation was performed on October 11, her condition reportedly worsened and she died on Monday (October 12).

Based on a complaint filed by relatives, the medical college police registered a case of unnatural death under Section 194 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita. Hospital management has also launched an internal investigation.
