The Mediatek Dimenth 8400 chipset was launched on Monday for mobile devices. It has a full-height core design designed to cater to the premium smartphone market. Mediatek says its latest mobile processor has improved by up to 41% in multi-core performance predecessor (Dimenty 8300). It also supports artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, provided by a dedicated Neural Processing Unit (NPU), which accelerates generated AI tasks.
Mediatek said Android devices powered by the latest focus 8400 SOC are expected to be available on the market by the end of 2024. Xiaomi has confirmed that its upcoming Chinese Redmi Turbo 4 (presumably launched early next year) will be powered by the chipset.
According to Mediatek, the Dimente 8400 chipset is located above the Dimente 8300 as its latest mobile device processor. The chip has eight ARM Cortex-A725 cores with a peak clock speed of 4.32GHz, although the chip has different memory caches. Multi-core performance is reported to be 41% improved. The chip maker says its processors can precisely control the CPU’s power curve, reducing power consumption by 44%.
It is paired with the ARM MALI-G720 GPU, which has 24% higher peak performance and 42% higher power efficiency. MediAtek bundles the GPU with Mediatek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) for smoother gameplay and Mediatek Adaptive Gaming Technology (MAGT) 3.0 for real-time performance optimization.
The company said devices running this chipset will support LPDDR5X RAM and UFS 4.0 storage.
Jumping in the AI trend, the Dimente 8400 SOC has a Mediatek NPU 880 that supports generated AI tasks. Additionally, the company will initially introduce the new Dimention Agentic AI Engine (DAE) to the latest mobile processors. It is said to transform traditional AI applications into complex proxy AI applications. According to MediAtek, the chip can deliver 21% of its output in China’s Baichuan 4B AI model in stable diffusion v1.5 and 33% output, which is faster than its predecessor.
Smartphones equipped with the Dimente 8400 chip will be able to support up to 320 megapixel camera sensors, leveraging the built-in Mediatek Imagiq 1080 ISP using QPD Remosaic technology to capture more light and faster focus. It supports video capture and playback at a 60 frame resolution of 60 frames per second (FPS). CHIP supports device display with maximum WQHD resolution, up to 144Hz refresh rate. Additionally, it can run devices with dual screens.
For connectivity, the Dimente 8400 SOC brings Mediatek’s 5G-A modem with up to 5.17 Gbps performance and support for Wi-Fi 6e and Bluetooth 5.4. According to Mediatek, the Dimente 8400 supports satellite systems such as QZSS, Galileo, Beidou, Glonass, Navic and GPS. It also has Mediatek Ultrasave 3.0+ technology, which provides higher efficiency on 5G networks.
