Anomalies and logical inconsistencies ranging from parental name mismatches to illogical gaps between offspring have been discovered in about 38% of the voters who were mapped as part of the preparatory exercise for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Telangana state. This represents over 89.88 lakh voting population in the state.

A total of 11 anomalies were listed which include: less than nine months difference between offspring, less than 15 years age difference between offspring and parent, less than 40 years age difference between voter and grandparent, different parent name between current list and previous SIR, mapping done with different relative type between current list and previous SIR (father/mother), mapped with different age of father and father in previous SIR list in current list and different name of spouse in current SIR list, difference between current and last SIR, absence of any document and Aadhaar is the only document.

Voter registration officers will have the discretion to include anomalous voters and may require the voter to appear in person with the appropriate documents to prove their voter identity. A total of 12 documents have been listed but the list is not exhaustive, Chief Electoral Officer C. Sudarshan Reddy informed a media conference he addressed on Saturday (June 20).

The highest percentage of anomalous voters – 65% of the total number of mapped voters – was found in Medchal Malkajgiri district, where mapping was the lowest at 43.67%. A total of 13 lakh voters were mapped against the district’s total of 29.79 lakh as per the 2025 rolls and anomalies were discovered in the case of more than 8.45 lakh voters.

In absolute terms, Ranga Reddy district recorded the highest number of anomalous voters – more than 11.44 lakh out of 21.71 lakh mapped voters, representing 52.7%. The total number of voters in this district is close to 37 thousand and mapping has been completed with respect to 58.68%.

No other district comes even closer in comparison, with the next highest anomaly percentage of more than 44% recorded in Narayanpet district. The lowest anomalies were recorded in Khammam district at 19.25% against 77% mapping completion. Mapping achieved 46.69% in Hyderabad with 39% anomalous records.

With 94.54%, Mahbubabad district topped the list with the highest mapped voters, followed by Jangaon with 93.44%.

Overall, pre-SIR mapping has been completed for 70.54% voters out of a total of 3,38,26,448 registered voters as per Electoral Roll 2025. Over 99.64 million voters remain unmapped, of which more than 57 million are in Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medchal Malkajgiri districts alone, which fully/partly form the National Capital Region.

House-to-house census as part of SIR will be conducted in Telangana between June 25 and July 24, with booth-level officers making door-to-door visits to distribute and collect census forms. The draft electoral lists will be published on July 31, and complaints and objections will be received by August 30. The final electoral lists will be published on October 1.
