At the beginning of this year, the National Court (NGT) issued a notification to the Government Delhi, MCD, NDMC and PWD over the reason emphasizing how droppings in the pigeon feeding cause hypersensitive pneumonitis and other breathing diseases.
Doctors have said that pigeon droppings may have bacteria and fungi that cause serious allergic reactions, lung infections and chronic respiratory diseases such as fibrosis.
No confirmed outbreaks associated with pigeons have been reported in Delhi.
“We recall people to stop feeding pigeons because of their health and help control bird populations. Any other actions will depend on the situation in the coming months,” the clerk added.
