Thiruvananthapuram Mayor VV Rajesh on Sunday (February 8, 2026) said the corporation would launch a crackdown on “illegal spas” in the capital. In the evening, corporation officials conducted checks at a spa near Statue Junction following a complaint from a woman that the owner of the spa tried to assault her when she went there for a job interview.
Mr Rajesh said he had asked the secretary to check the licenses issued by spas in the city. The civic body will conduct inspections in all spas.
“Cross massages, the practice of women massaging men and vice versa will not be allowed. According to the information we have received, this is happening in several spas. The presence of a masseur and a doctor is mandatory in the spas. But in many places there are no authorized masseurs or doctors. The corporation will conduct inspections in the spas in collaboration with the police department,” said Mr. Raje.
