Mercedes team director confirmed this Wolff that he is interested in signing four -time world champion and Red Bull Max Verstappen and pairing him with George Russell. Mercedes was associated with the fact that for Verstappen since Lewis Hamilton left the team, left the team and moved to Ferrari.
It seemed that plans were suspended, but George Russell recently revealed Sky Sports that his contractual negotiations with Mercedes were delayed because the team spoke to Verstappen. When Wolff asked about the comments of Russell, he said he supported what his drivers say, and at the moment they are also thinking about the future. Mercedes chief, however, admitted that he was satisfied with the current line -up.

“I like what George says, and I always support the driver. There is nothing like saying things that I wouldn’t want to say. We are very transparent in the team for what we do, what we plan, and we’ve been commissioned since I was commissioned.
“At the moment, you have to see what is happening in the future, but it doesn’t change what I said before George, Kimi, a line -up that I am extremely happy,” Wolff said.
Asked if Verstappen had a deadline for his decision, Wolff said that he wanted these conversations to remain behind the closed door and not in public.

“We have two drivers who have been in our program for a long time, drivers that I am absolutely happy, drivers who will be great in the future of the team. So it’s a little different situation,” Wolff said.
Verstappen has a contract until 2028, but several provisions in the agreement will allow him to leave the team early.

Verstappen and Russell had a fair share of the run-inch this season, and Wolff was asked if he could have both men in the same team. Mercedes chief said he could imagine every possible line -up and pointed out that both Hamilton and Nico Rosberg were in the same team while fighting for the title.
“I can imagine every line -up. I had Rosberg and Hamilton to fight for the World Championship, so everything else is easy.”
“There are advantages and disadvantages that two drivers are fighting hard.”
“We have seen examples where it works and other examples where not.”
Verstappen and Russell are currently the third and fourth in the F1 driver ranking towards the Austrian GP.
