Maurene Comey, a veteran federal prosecutor and daughter of former FBI director James Comey, filed a lawsuit that challenged her release as unlawful and politically motivated.
In his suit filed on Monday at the Federal Court in New York against the Office of the President, the Ministry of Justice and others, Comey said that her shooting in July as an assistant to the US representative in Manhattan was “unlawful and unconstitutional”.
She argued that she had a “exemplary” record during her ten -year career and never got an explanation of her removal.
“In fact, there is no legitimate explanation,” the action said. “Rather, the defendants shot Mrs. Comey only or substantially, because her father is former FBI director James B. Comey, or because of her perceived political affiliation and faith or both.”
The timing raises questions
Its release came only a week after the Ministry of Justice confirmed the unspecified criminal investigation of her father, the long -time critic of President Donald Trump.
The Court also recorded a wider context: from entering the office in January, Trump has removed officials considered to be disloyal, targeted legal companies involved in cases against it and reduced federal financing of universities.
Cases with high profile
Maurene Comey has prosecuted a number of main cases, including charges of trading people against Jeffrey Epstein, who died in 2019 by suicide in court.
She also played a key role in the belief of Ghislaine Maxwell, a long -time collaborator Epstein, who now performs a 20 -year sentence for trading in minors.
Trump-Comey Feud
James Comey’s history with Trump was full. The President burned him in 2017 when he led the FBI investigation to alleged ties between Trump’s campaign and Moscow during the 2016 elections.
The younger Comey suit claims that its end is part of the wider pattern of retaliation.
