On Sunday, May 18, a massive fire broke out in the MOFUSIL bus booth in Kozhikode City, which influenced several shops. The fire reportedly began around 17:00 from the textile store on the first floor of the shopping complex located in the heart of the city.
Although the fire engine from four stations reached the space in minutes, the whole complex was soon absorbed by flames and destroyed a large supply of clothing. Fortunately, all customers and sales staff were evacuated in time and no injuries were reported.

Subsequently, firefighting engines from other eight stations were deployed and emergency alerts for further support were sent to neighboring districts. Police staff from various city stations and rescue volunteers joined the fire brigade to control fire.
According to firefighters’ instructions, shop owners quickly moved inflammatory materials, including liquefied oil rollers, from nearby shops. Strong smoke made the rescue units access to the upper floor. Finally, firefighters had to break the windows to enter the affected areas.
Officials of the Ministry of Police and income got to the place to supervise rescue operations and promote measures to control the crowd. Once and a half hours it took the fire under control on one side of the building.
The district collector Snehil Kumar Singh, who coordinated the operation on the spot, said that all fire -fighting stations – including one at the Calicut International Airport – were instructions to help. He said there were no victims and attributed them to low customer participation on Sunday.
