US Vice President JD Vance spoke at the March for Life 2026 on January 23, highlighting the administration’s pro-life priorities and pledging support for families across the United States.
Vance shared personal messages with the crowd and emphasized his commitment to family life.
“Usha and I announced this week that we are expecting a fourth and it will be our third baby boy. So we will accept any prayers you can give,” he said.
He urged the participants to find joy in their advocacy: “When you look at this crowd today, it seems that you have taken that proposal very well to heart, because I see joyful people … beautiful little children with incredible green hats.”
Life as a gift
The vice president underlined the theme of the march and emphasized the technological progress in health care that protects life.
“I am grateful for the technological breakthroughs that have allowed us to affirm and protect life — things like 3D ultrasound … things like new medical technologies that have saved the lives of countless premature babies,” he said.
Defense of the Dobbs decision
Vance praised the Supreme Court’s 2022 Dobbs ruling that ended federal abortion rights:
“Three years ago … he (the president) issued and his Supreme Court justices made the most important Supreme Court decision of my lifetime … (Dobbs) ended once and for all the tyranny of the judicial process over human life.”
He said the decision ended a “50-year culture of availability” and strengthened local efforts to “build a culture of living from the ground up”.
Political achievements and protections
The vice president highlighted several administration initiatives to support families and protect life:
-Ending taxpayer funding of abortions, including travel expenses
-Expansion of religious freedom and protection of conscience for healthcare workers
-Strengthening foster care and adoption programs
-Expansion of child tax credits and “Trump bills” to support families financially
“We want Americans … to raise their children with confidence that they will do well and grow up safe and prosperous,” Vance said.
Fight against abortion funding and foreign policy initiatives
Vance announced steps to prevent US funds from supporting abortion abroad: “We have completely refocused US foreign aid and turned off the spigot to NGOs whose sole purpose is to discourage people from having children … we have rejoined the Geneva Consensus Declaration to promote maternal health and strong families around the world.”
Cultural and historical context
Vance framed the pro-life movement as a moral imperative: “From skeletons in brothels to Mayan child sacrifices, it is a mark of barbarism that we treat infants as nuisances to be discarded rather than blessings to be cherished for being . . . every life is fearfully and wonderfully made by our Creator.”
He criticized the cultural message that portrays marriage and children as a burden:
“Today, the far left in this country tells our young people that marriage and children are obstacles… They tell us that life itself is a burden. But we here at this march know that’s a lie. We know that life is a gift.”
Call to action
Vance concluded by calling for continued commitment to the pro-life cause: “Don’t forget how far we’ve come. But don’t lose sight of why we’re marching. And as long as you’re out there marching for life, I hope you know that the Vice President of the United States will be marching with you. God bless you all, and thank you for having me.”
