Congress MEP Rahul Gandhi on Saturday hit the Minister of the Union Piyush Goyal over his remarks about India-USA a tariff agreement with warning. In a strict message, Gandhi said, “Piyush Goyal can beat his chest everything he wants to mark my words, (Prime Minister Narendra) Modi humbly bowed to Trump’s term.”
Gandhi’s note came in response to the Minister of Trade and Industry Piyush Goyal’s claim that India would accept the proposed business agreement with the US only when it is in the national interest and fully completed.
Piyush Goyal told reporters on Friday that the free trade agreement is only possible if there is a mutual advantage.
“It should be a bilateral agreement and only if the interests of India are ensured – national interest will always be the highest – and in mind, if there is a good trade, India is always ready to participate in developed countries,” Goyal said on the outskirts of 16.
He said that the discussion is taking place with different countries, including the European Union, New Zealand, Oman, the US, Chile and Peru.
Trump set a deadline on July 9 to complete a business agreement with India
When asked whether a temporary trade agreement between the two countries is possible by July 9, PTI has been quoted as: “India never does any trade agreement on the basis of a deadline or time frame. When the agreement is made correctly and is completely completed and is in the interest of the country, then we accept it”.
9 July means the end of the 90 -day period of suspension of US President Donald Trump, who announced tariffs stored in dozens of countries, including India. Another import obligation of 26 percent was announced to Indian goods entering the US.
On March 26, 2025, the US took measures in the form of an increase in the tariff by 25 % ad valor for imports of passenger vehicles and light trucks and on certain automotive parts from India or India, the road sent to the WTO said.
Measures on car parts are valid from 3 May 2025 and for an unlimited period of time.
