Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney responded on Friday to the claim “Flow of Fentanyl” from Canada to “Fentanyl” and stated that Canada “has made a major progress to stop the Fentanyl whisk in North America”.
Carney published on X: “We are determined to continue working with the United States to save lives and protect communities in both of our countries.”
In a letter published by Mark Carney Trump said that the new rate would come into force on August 1 and increase if Canada would take away. It was the latest of more than 20 such letters published by Trump since Monday, because it continues to follow its threats of trade war against dozens of economies.
35% of the tariff is an increase from the current 25% of the rate Trump assigned to Canada, and it is a blow to Carney, who tried to agree a business contract with Washington.
In his letter, Trump complained about what he referred to as the Fentanyl flow of Canada. “If Canada works with me to stop the Fentanyl flow, we may consider adjusting this letter,” Trump wrote.
Canadian officials say that a small amount of fentanyl comes from Canada, but have taken measures to strengthen the border, Reuters reported.
In the last paper, Carney said: “During the current business negotiations with the United States, the Canadian government firmly prevented our workers and businesses. We will continue to work on a revised date of August 1.”
The Canadian Prime Minister said: “We are building a strong Canada. The federal government, provinces and territory are making significant progress in building one Canadian economy. We are ready to build a number of main new projects in the national interest. We strengthen our business partnerships around the world.”
Canada and the US have been locked in business negotiations in the hope that they will reach an agreement by July 21st, but it seems that the last threat has shifted this deadline.
