Maria Bartiromo Fox News exit: Former anchor speaks for first time since exit and hints at what's ahead

Maria Bartiromo broke her silence a week after Fox News Media announced she had split from the longtime anchor, taking to social media to thank friends and followers for the support she’s received since the news broke.

The journalist, who spent more than 12 years at Fox News Media, shared her first public message about the matter on Thursday, September 10, a day before her 59th birthday.

Alongside a photo of a rainbow breaking through the clouds, Bartiromo wrote: “Thank you to all my friends and followers for your wonderful words. I’m so grateful for the outpouring of love on SM (social media) and texts. I love you all. Here’s a great shot 🌈 of me breaking down yesterday. More to come.”

The brief post did not directly address the circumstances surrounding her departure from Fox. But the last line — “More to come” — drew attention as questions persist about what’s next for one of the network’s most respected business and political TV personalities.

Fox News Media announced on September 3 that Bartiromo was no longer with the company, ending a tenure that lasted 12 1/2 years. The company said the decision was effective immediately and thanked her for her work, but did not provide a detailed explanation for the split.

“We thank Maria for her work over the past 12 ½ years and wish her the best in her next chapter,” Fox News Media said in its announcement.

The move also brought immediate changes to the programs associated with Bartiromo. Her weekday show Mornings with Maria aired its final episode on September 3 and was subsequently rebranded as Mornings with FOX Business, with rotating anchors taking over the slot.

Her weekly program Maria Bartiromo’s Wall Street was also rebranded as FBN’s Wall Street, while Sunday Morning Futures was temporarily handed over to Jason Chaffetz, with Fox saying a new host would be announced at a later date.

The circumstances of Bartiromo’s departure have become complicated as her lawyer has publicly disputed reports that she was fired.

Bryan Freedman, Bartiromo’s attorney, told Fox after the announcement that claims suggesting she was fired or no longer employed by the company were “absolutely and unequivocally false.” He also suggested that evidence supporting Bartiromo’s position could emerge at trial or otherwise.

Fox News Media stood by its original announcement and did not provide further details about the reasons for the split, according to subsequent reports.

Bartiromo joined Fox in 2014 after a two-decade career at CNBC, where she became one of the most prominent names in business television and was known for pioneering live coverage of the New York Stock Exchange. At Fox, she became a prominent presence on Fox Business and Fox News, hosting programs focused on markets, politics and current affairs.

Her departure also drew public reactions from prominent political figures, including Donald Trump, who praised Bartiromo after the announcement, describing her as a “true fighter”.

So far, however, Bartiromo’s own report has not offered her immediate plans. Instead, the rainbow photo and her promise of “more to come” marked a measured first reaction to an abrupt departure that continues to raise questions.
