Thomas Tuchel Names First England Squad, Rashford Returns
Thomas Tuchel has announced his first squad as England manager, marking a new era for the Three Lions following Gareth Southgate’s departure after Euro 2024. Among the notable inclusions is Marcus Rashford, who returns to the national team setup for the first time in 12 months.
Rashford, currently on loan at Aston Villa, has rediscovered his form after a challenging period with Manchester United. His last appearance for England was in March 2024, after which he was omitted from Southgate’s squads due to inconsistent performances.
Tuchel, who took charge in January, has spent the past two months evaluating players and finalizing his plans. His squad features a mix of experienced players and fresh faces, including Aston Villa’s Morgan Rogers, who earns his first call-up. However, Manchester City winger Jack Grealish has been left out, despite briefly returning to the squad under interim manager Lee Carsley.
Arsenal’s Myles Lewis-Skelly has been handed his first senior call-up, while 17-year-old Ethan Nwaneri misses out. Newcastle United defender Dan Burn, 32, also receives his first opportunity to represent England at any level, replacing Manchester United’s Harry Maguire, who remains out of favor under Tuchel despite his contributions under Ruben Amorim.
Ajax midfielder Jordan Henderson makes a comeback to the squad after last representing England in November 2023.
Tuchel’s tenure as England manager begins with a World Cup qualifier at Wembley Stadium on March 21, followed by a match against Latvia on March 24.
