US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Thursday that the Trump government closely monitors the situation in South Asia and urged Pakistan and India to de-eskaling when the tension mounted between two neighbors.
Rubio spoke to the Indian Minister of the External Affairs S. Jaishankar on Thursday and emphasized the need for de-espaliation of tension.
He also expressed American support for direct dialogue between the two Asian nations.
In the post on the Social Media Platform X Jaishankar said: “@secrubio toned us tonight. We will appreciate the determination to cooperate with India in the fight against terrorism.”
“She underlined the targeted and measured reaction of India to cross -border terrorism. He will firmly face any attempts to escalate,” Jaishankar added.
Previously on Thursday, Rubio called Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and discussed the evolving situation in the region, according to the press agency PTI quoting Radio Pakistan.
The United States closely monitors the situation in South Asia because they have committed themselves to promoting peace and stability in the region, Rubio said.
“He also emphasized the need for Pakistan and India to work closely to escalation the situation,” he said.
