The doctors checked the health of the activist Manoj Jarange, who stopped drinking water on Monday (September 1, 2025) when his hunger strike on Azad Maidan in southern Mumbai over the demand of Maratha entered the fourth day.
Hundreds of members of the Maratha community seeking quota gathered at the CHhatApati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) and other areas in southern Mumbai, causing traffic overload and commuting inconvenience.
The police moved the operation to the CSMT area, while the electric delivery and transport in Brihanmumbai (best) also suspended, diverted or limited buses on all routes leading to CSMT.
After blocked, Minister Maharashtra Radhakrishn Vikhe Patil said that the government was working on solving the problem of marath quota that will stand in court.
Mr. Jarange stopped drinking water on Monday, claiming his supporters, and reaffiring his promise that he would not throw himself until the government had its demand for 10 % quota for the Maratha community in the other back -class (OC) category.
A team of doctors from the JJ State Hospital went to Azad Maidan and checked Mr. Jarang’s blood pressure and sugar levels.
In the CSMT, located nearby, a large number of protesters were seen to dance and increase slogans to support the demand with quota, leading to overfilling to the railway station.
The road also gathered the score of agitators towards Mahapalika Marg, JJ Marg and DN Road, which sometimes stopped traffic.
In the Azad Maidan, there was a severe deployment of the police, but the protesters were seen that they did not follow the guidelines of security staff.
Some groups of protesters tried to enter the Bombay building building, but security officials did not allow them. The protesters then lifted slogans such as “Ek Marathha Lakh Marathha” and “Aarakshan Aamcha Hakka Che” (reservation is our right), outside the building.
Several protesters presented protests around the CSMT and in front of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), located near the morning.
Communicating, especially offices who travel trains, were unpleasant because of crowded platforms.
Some of the protesters tried to stop vehicles, including the best buses, blocking their journey on roads outside CSMT, BMC areas and near Metro Theater in the morning, but the police dispersed them.
The police diverted the operation towards CSMT to other routes, the official said.
The best official stated that the traffic police in Mumbai also closed the JJ Bridge for heavy vehicles from 9:30 in the morning due to the agitation of the Maratha quota in Azad Maidan.
“All the best buses on the routes approaching or passing through CSMT have been diverted or temporarily suspended,” the spokesman said.
According to motorists, traffic on the eastern highway and other roads leading to southern Mumbai was slowly, but was not stopped as last week.
On Sunday, the police warned motorists against disturbing the transport movement towards South Mumbai.
“Azad Maidan: Expect tomorrow (Monday) in the morning slow traffic and occasional disruption, while commuting towards southern Mumbai due to ongoing agitation. Continue to minimize it,” she published on his official social media designer.
Police deployed more power in Azad Maidan and around him and barricaded several roads leading to the south of Mumbai with regard to agitation.
Vikhe Patil, who leads the cabinet subcommittee on Marath’s reservation, met the main Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Sunday evening to discuss the situation.
“We are working to solve the problem. I agree that it takes time. However, the solution should be sustainable in the courts,” the Minister told reporters on Monday.
He said that the protesters should ensure that the daily routine of the bombai population is not affected because it shows their agitation in poor light.
Mr. Fadnavis is expected to meet their deputies EKNATH Shinde and Ajit Pawar to discuss the government plan to end the stand-off.
Mr. Jarange demanded GR government edition on the basis of reservation based on available records.
On Sunday, the government said it would seek a legal opinion on the introduction of Hyderabad Gazetteer on the status of Kunbi- for the Maratha community.
