Maratha protesters head to Mumbai, says Jarange Patil

“We are going to Mumbai, the date will be announced on September 12 once we all meet at Antarwali Sarathi,” Maratha activist Manoj Jarange Patil said as his indefinite hunger strike demanding reservation for the community began on Thursday the 13th (September 10, 2026).

“We are not waiting for the government delegation to visit his protest site, but we are waiting for the supporters to gather and then decide on the next course of action,” said Jarange Patil.

Mr. Jarange Patil and his supporters are holding a protest across the state demanding that the government issue certificates based on Kunbi records in the Hyderabad and Satara Gazette records to eligible members of the Maratha community and validate the certificates instead of canceling them.

Mahayuti minister Uday Samant said, “We are taking all steps to resolve the issue by September 12.” Revenue Minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule highlighted that the government has set up camps to facilitate the process of issuing certificates. “Steps are being taken to provide reservation in the OBC category based on the government’s SOP,” he added.

Speaking to mediapersons at Antarwali Sarati in Jalna district, he said, “We will monitor whether the camps organized to issue Kunbi certificates are due to the ongoing agitation or cancellation of issued certificates.”

Relations with the Mahayuti rose sharply

A day ago, Mr. Jarange Patil accused Maratha Quota Sub-Committee Chairman Radhakrishna Vikhe Patil of betraying the community by being a sweet talker.

Criticizing DCM Eknath Shinde and attacking Shiv Sena minister Sanjay Shirsat, he said, “In the last three years I treated Mr. Shinde with respect, but now he is speaking for the party. It is because of Shirsat, relations have gone up a notch,” he added.

Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut hit out at the Mahayuti alliance, saying, “The government wants to kill him. They have used Manoj Jarange Patil for political gain.”
