A 45-year-old Maoist carrying a reward of ₹ 5 lakh was killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Kanker district on Monday (April 13, 2026), a senior police officer said.
Deceased Maoist Rupi, an area committee member, hailed from Telangana and a police statement described her as the last active “Telugu Maoist cadre in Bastar”. It is also the first time a gunfight has been reported since the government declared Chhattisgarh free from armed Maoists on March 31.
