Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange Patil ended his fast after midnight on Sunday (May 31, 2026) after representatives of the Maharashtra government handed him a 12-point proposal related to Maratha reservation. He called for the creation of a ministry for the community.
“The government has agreed to some demands, including issuance of (Kunbi caste) certificates based on identified records of 58,000 kunbis, with documents to be displayed in village gram panchayat offices and action against officials who refuse certificates,” said Mr. Jarange Patil.
Water Resources Minister Radhakrishna Vikhe-Patil, who heads the Cabinet Sub-Committee on Maratha Reservation, and BJP MLC Prasad Lad on Saturday (May 30) met Mr Jarange Patil at Antarwali Sarati, his native village in Jalna district, in an attempt to convince him to call off his indefinite hunger strike.
Late on Sunday (May 31) night, Mr. Jarange Patil gave the government a month’s time to comply with the 12-point proposal, which includes withdrawing the FIR against the Maratha reservation protesters and directing divisional commissioners to implement reservation.
Other demands include implementation of Satara, Aundh and other gazettes and validation of caste certificates issued.
After ending his fast, Mr. Jarange Patil was taken to a hospital in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar for a medical check-up. It was Mr. Jarange’s ninth hunger strike in the last three years.
