
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested two individuals associated with the forbidden militant groups to involve them in the brutal killing of a woman and the subsequent arson and looting houses in the village of Zairawn in the Jiribam district in Manipuro in November 2024.
The accused, Nongthombam Meirab of the Bishhnupur district, is a member of the forbidden rebel group United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and allegedly carried out the real shooting of the victim identified as Zosangkim
The second accused, Sagols Sanatomba, also known as Surchandra Singh or Piba, comes from the district of Thoublo and is associated with other forbidden clothing, Kangle Yawol Kanna Lup (Kykkl). It is assumed that he was part of a militant team responsible for a violent attack, which included burning and looting houses in the village.
Both suspects are currently in custody of NIA until 17 May, as the investigation continues. The arrest comes six months after the tragic incident in which the teacher was fatally shot and lit her body and sent shock waves through the local community.
According to NIA, the suspects played a direct role in brutal killing and extensive destruction caused by Zairawn. The Swift Action Agency is an important step in solving violence related to militance in the region and the position of perpetrators to court.
