The shutdown meant the second anniversary of the ethnic conflict in manipur, because the Kuki-Zo and Meitei communities remembered the victims of violence in their relevant areas of dominance on Saturdays.
Educational institutions and businesses on the Meitei-Majority Imphal Valley were closed in response to the Coordination Committee for the Integrity of Manipur (COCOMI), a conglomerate of social organizations to participate in the public Convention at Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal.
People in the hills, dominated by a group of Kuki-ZO tribes, also observed a weaning called the Federation of Zomi students and the organization of Kuki students.
At the Cocomi event, people offered floral honors to commemorate the victims. Speakers, including scientists, prominent personalities and leaders of civil society organizations, demanded peace, justice, conflict resolution and protection of territorial integrity of manipure.
The Tenor of the Imphalian Convention contrasted with the “Day of Separation”, the theme of the anniversary organized by the forum of indigenous tribal leaders that detonated the rights of Kuki-Zo people. The highlight of the forum program was the convergence of hundreds of people on the “Memories” Wall in Churachandpur to pay tribute to the victims of Kuki-Zo conflict.

The emphasis on the “separation day” was on the demand of Kuki-Zo after a separate administration, which is gaining strength from the outbreak of the ethnic conflict two years ago.
