
In a tragic development, a 20-year-old Kuki woman was allegedly kidnapped and gang-raped in 2023, amid ethnic conflict in the state of Manipur, he died on January 10 of lingering injuries. She was kidnapped and gang-raped by a mob in Imphal two years ago. The victim reportedly filed her assault case in July 2023, but no suspects have been arrested.
According to regional accounts, relatives of the victims said they never truly recovered from the psychological effects of the savage violence. She was left in deep shock, which damaged her emotional and physical well-being. She breathed her last while receiving medical treatment at a hospital in Guwahati.

According to a report from India todaythe survivor described the terrifying event, explaining that she was kidnapped by a quartet of men who questioned her parentage and handed her over to a faction of armed men.
The incident took place on May 15, 2023. The deceased, a resident of New Checkon Colony in Imphal, was going outside to withdraw funds from an ATM when she was abducted. Based on her testimony, she was transferred to various places in Imphal such as Wangkhei Ayangpali and Langol where she endured sexual and extreme physical assaults.
The attackers abandoned her in Bishnupur, believing her to have perished. The survivor was rescued by an autorickshaw operator who took her to a clinic. After preliminary care in Manipur, the patient was shifted to Guwahati due to the severity of her trauma.
Based on the victim’s account, an FIR was filed under Sections 354, 307, 364, 376 and 506 of the Indian Penal Code (Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita), along with clauses of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. Nevertheless, even after two years, no perpetrators have been caught.
The Churachandpur-affiliated Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF) announced a candlelight memorial in honor of the victim.
16-year-old girl raped, murdered in Malappuram
A 16-year-old girl whose remains were found at Thodiyapalam near the railway line in Malappuram district was the victim sexual assault and murder, police said.

Malappuram District Superintendent of Police Viswanadh R informed the press that the minor who went missing from Karuvarakundu locality on Thursday was sexually assaulted and killed. Her body was discovered on Friday, the news agency reported PTI.
He noted that the victim’s boyfriend, who was taken into custody in the case and is illegally labeled a juvenile, appeared before a judge overseeing a Juvenile Justice Committee hearing and was committed to a correctional facility on Saturday. The district police chief said earlier investigations indicated that the killing was carried out due to complications related to their romantic involvement.
“We have to dig deep into the motive. Since this is a child in conflict with the law, there are some restrictions, but the motive will be investigated in detail,” he said.
Viswanadh mentioned that the detained youth had made another alleged relationship with the girl, a claim that will be verified during the ongoing investigation. He added that the evidence gathered so far indicated that the girl was raped and killed in the same remote forest area near the railway tracks where her remains were found.
