Speakers at the training program organized under the ‘Mango Unnati’ project initiative made a clear appeal to the farming community to ensure rational use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides for optimum quality of mango production.

Tirupati Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS), in collaboration with Coca-Cola Foundation, New Delhi, conducted a program at RASS Seva Nilayam here on Thursday as part of a sustained campaign to achieve high quality yields in ‘Totapuri’ mango variety. Totapuri mango is grown on a large scale in 20 mandals of Chittoor combined district.

RASS General Secretary S. Venkataratnam said excessive use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides results in low quality produce, which in turn deprives them of fair market prices.

Emphasizing the need to follow scientific management practices and plant protection measures recommended by scientists, he said the use of biofertilizers and biopesticides would greatly reduce reliance on chemicals.

Later, he distributed nutrient kits containing Multi-K, biofertilizers, Pongamia oil and “Mango special” micronutrient blends to 100 farmers to conduct demonstrations in their fields.

Scientists from RASS Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) offered tips to progressive farmers from Rompicherla, Pulicherla, Penumuru, Yerravaripalem, Chinnagottigallu, Vedurukuppam and Puttur mandals of combined Chittoor district.
