The autorickshaw fare structure has been revised in Mandya after nearly seven years.
Deputy Commissioner Kumar said that the revision was done in the interest of the public as well as the autorickshaw drivers and owners in view of the increase in fuel prices and rising operation and maintenance costs.
Dr. Kumar, who chaired a meeting to fix autorickshaw fares at his office on January 24, said the minimum fare for the first 1.9 km, which was fixed at ₹25 in 2017, has now been increased by ₹5 by the district transport department. Accordingly, passengers will have to pay ₹30 for the first 1.9 km.
For every additional kilometer above 1.9 km, the fare has increased from ₹13 to ₹15. The first five minutes of waiting will continue to be free, as before. After the free waiting period, a charge of ₹5 will be charged for every 15 minutes or part thereof. Baggage weighing up to 20 kg will be carried free, baggage above 20 kg will be charged ₹ 5, while the maximum weight allowance has been fixed at 50 kg, he said.
Night fare will continue to be charged at 50% above the normal fare between 10 pm and 5 am Auto drivers have been directed not to charge passengers more than the prescribed rates, the Deputy Commissioner said.
Police Inspector Shobharani VJ, Regional Transport Officer Hemavathi, officials and representatives of auto drivers association were present.
