MANCHESTER CITY SIGN VITOR REIS FROM PALMEIRAS FOR £29.6M
Manchester City have announced the signing of Brazilian defender Vitor Reis from Palmeiras for a reported fee of £29.6m, making him the latest addition to Pep Guardiola’s squad.
The 21-year-old Reis, who has been impressing in the Brazilian top flight, has penned a five-year deal with the Premier League giants, with an option to extend for an additional year.
Standing at 6’2", Reis is a commanding presence at the heart of defense, known for his aerial ability, reading of the game, and distribution. His signing is expected to bolster City’s defensive options, providing a strong alternative to the likes of Aymeric Laporte and John Stones.
"Vitor is a talented young player who has already shown great promise in Brazil," said City’s Director of Football, Txiki Begiristain. "We’re delighted to bring him to Manchester and believe he has the potential to become a key player for us in the future."
Reis, who has made 34 appearances for Palmeiras, scoring four goals, joins a City squad that has undergone significant changes during the summer transfer window. Alongside the likes of Erling Haaland and Kalvin Phillips, Reis is the third major signing made by Guardiola, who has been busy revamping his team ahead of the new season.
The Portuguese defender’s arrival has been met with excitement from City fans, who are eager to see him feature in the opening matches of the campaign. Reis is likely to be a key player in City’s upcoming fixtures, as they look to build on their impressive title-winning season last year.
Manchester City’s squad has been strengthened further with the addition of Reis, who has the potential to become a dominant force in the Premier League. With his versatility, athleticism, and defensive acumen, he is expected to make a significant impact at the Etihad Stadium.
The deal marks a significant coup for Manchester City, as they continue to invest in young talent from around the world. With Reis, Haaland, and Phillips all joining the squad, the Citizens are poised to make a strong push for the Premier League title and a deep run in the Champions League.
