With the work on the first phase of the Manachira – Vellimadukunnnně road scheduled for Monday (June 16, 2025), a project developed in two parts, one state and the other center broke out through the project.
Road Project Manachira – Velimadukunnu has a history of more than 15 years, marked by several protests led by the Road Action Committee Manachira – Vellimadukunn. The estimated project costs are 481.94 crore, of which the state of which was sanctioned by Crore 344.5 GBP.
However, the current development under the project of improving urban roads covers a section of 5.32 km from Machira to the superpowers, while no steps were taken to the remaining 3 km from Maliaparamba to Veltimadukunn, which is part of the National Highway 766.
The opposition claimed that the government had stated the public by failing to develop the second part of the road, as promised earlier.
The President of the District Congress (DCC) K. Poe on Saturday demanded an explanation of the public work department in this matter and questioned the exclusion of MP Kozhikode MK Raghavan from the inauguration function scheduled for Monday morning. He pointed out that it was Mr. Raghavan, who took over the project for the project and that it was the former main Minister Oommen Chanda, who first allocated funds to develop the road.
On the other hand, the Indian Communist Party (Marxist) (CPI (M)) The District Committee defended the Minister of Public Works of PA Mohammad Riyas and claimed that the development of the second section of the road could not be carried out because the Ministry of Road Transport and Motorways did not provide the state government permit.
The District Secretary of CPI (M) M. Mehaboob on Sunday (June 15, 2025) appreciated the state government for continuing the development of the first range instead of waiting for the center approval on the second. He accused Congress as politically motivated. CPI (m) argued that the section from Malaca to superpowers was planned as part of the NH-766 project, which runs from Kolegal to Kozhikode. Given that the work has not yet been planned, the state government would ask that the second section be transferred to him.
