
The thirty -year -old Chandrayangutta’s inhabitants were reportedly cheated on 27.5 lakh fraud -based fraud after being lured by a woman who represented as a potential bride.
According to the police, the victim came into contact with a woman through the marriage website. She claims to come from London and originally from Chennai, gradually gaining her confidence in a promising marriage. As soon as a relationship was established, she convinced him to invest in Bitcoin trading through what turned out to be a fraudulent online platform.
The man invested 27.50 000 GBP using his savings, loans and lending money from friends. On the platform, his account showed a balance of around 1.34 crore. However, when he tried to withdraw, fraudsters demanded another 10% as a “tax payment”, approximately £ 13.47 GBP, which is a sign of fraud. The victim realized he was cheated and immediately reported fraud online.
The case was booked by the wing of the cyber crime of the Police in Hyderabad and the investigation started.
The police issued a public warning against the growing use of marital sites and social media fraudsters to lure victims with false promises of marriage and rapid profits through cryptocurrencies or shops. Officials stressed that people should never trust foreigners offering investment opportunities, especially through unverified platforms.
Citizens are asked to avoid investments in unregulated cryptocurrency applications and use only channels recognized by the Indian Reserve Bank (RBI) or the Indian Securities Council (SEBI). The police also warned against transferring money to unknown persons or relying on assurance on high returns without verifying the authenticity of websites, applications and contacts.
Victims of computer fraud is recommended that incidents on the National Portal report on cyber crime (www.cybercrime.gov.in) or dial 1930.
