A 24-year-old man was killed after a moving car hit the vent valve of the Krishna drinking water pipeline near Nagole Metro station on Tuesday (October 20, 2026), sending a massive jet of water more than 20 feet into the air and disrupting drinking water supply to several parts of Hyderabad.

The deceased has been identified as Vineeth, a resident of Hayathnagar.

The accident took place around 4 am near metro pillars No. 813 and 814 on the Uppal-Nagole route. The car reportedly rammed into the iron fence protecting the Krishna Drinking Water Supply Scheme phase 2 pipe vent valve, damaging both the guard structure and the valve.

The impact caused an eruption of water with considerable force that reportedly rose above the elevated subway track. Thousands of liters of potable water gushed from the damaged pipeline, flooding nearby roads and causing severe traffic jams on the Uppal-Nagole stretch. Videos shot by commuters have flooded social media platforms, demanding a speedier solution in times of water scarcity across the city due to El Nino.

According to the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), the damaged valve was located around 20 feet from the main road near Uppal Bagayath.
