A 55-year-old man died after a luxury car allegedly driven by a 17-year-old boy crashed into the scooter he was riding. The deceased was identified as Jayabalakrishnan of Chittur, Cheranalloor.

The Cheranalloor police have taken the minor driver, said to be the son of a senior judge, into custody. The car is registered in the name of Additional District Magistrate, Irinjalakuda Magistrate Court. The accident comes days after the Nedumbassery accident in which three youths were killed after an allegedly speeding luxury car driven by a 19-year-old rammed into a two-wheeler from behind.

The accident took place around 2:20 am near a car showroom in Maraparambu on Container Road in Cheranalloor. The teenager, who lives in Aluva, was reportedly traveling alone from Vallarpadam towards Kalamassery when he collided with a scooter moving in the same direction.

Jayabalakrishnan is said to have succumbed to his injuries on the spot. His relatives told the media that he was running a restaurant in Chittur.

Police have registered charges of reckless driving and rash or negligent conduct not amounting to culpable homicide against the driver.
