Man in custody allegedly assaults police officers in Kochi

Three policemen at Maradu station in Kochi were allegedly assaulted by a youth in custody.

Sub-Inspector Jackson, Assistant Sub-Inspector Sumesh and Civilian Constable Fazal were injured in the alleged attack by Ranjith, a native of Cherthala, on Friday (September 11, 2026) evening, according to police sources.

Mr. Fazal is said to have suffered a fractured right hand in the attack. Ranjith was taken into custody following a complaint of alleged misconduct, police sources said. He is also allegedly accused in a drug case.

After the incident, he was shifted to a cell at the Government Medical College Hospital in Ernakulam. The police registered a criminal complaint against him for allegedly assaulting police officers and obstructing them in the performance of their duties.
