A 34-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly vandalizing temple idols at Kummarollapalli village under Kadiri town in Sri Sathya Sai district, police said on Friday (March 6). The accused has been identified as Kunchapu Venkatesh, a resident of Murthipalli village in Kadiri Mandal.
According to the Kadiri town police, Venkatesh damaged the cement idols of Lord Hanuman and Garutmant at the ancient Sri Rama temple in the village on March 4 around 10.30 pm. During interrogation, he allegedly told the police that he had earlier entered into a contract with the temple trustees for the construction of the temple gopuram and arch.
However, when he completed part of the work, he learned that the temple management had assigned the remaining work to another person without paying his fees. Angered by the development, he went to the temple and vandalized the idols. The accused was taken into custody.
