Man held for stone pelting near Arani

The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a 34-year-old man for pelting stones at the Howrah Express train near Arani town in Tiruvannamalai on Saturday.

Police said the arrested person has been identified as T. Joseph Mani, a native of Dharmapuri. Initial investigation revealed that Mani was traveling in the train when he got into an argument with other commuters in the train at Onnupuram village near Arani town in the district.

Police said Mani allegedly pulled the emergency chain to stop the train. As Mani got off the train, he threw stones at the glass windows of the train and damaged them. According to the police, other commuters immediately alerted the railway police, who rushed to the spot. A case has been registered. Mani was arrested and lodged in a sub-jail in Tiruvannamalai town. A probe is underway.
