A bike rider with a female passenger allegedly misbehaved in Tirupati around midnight on Saturday. The man was identified as Peddaiah, an MBA student working part-time as a bike rider for a cycle taxi aggregator.
According to Alipiri police, the woman booked the ride late Saturday night. Accused Peddaiah took the drive. He allegedly misbehaved with her after dropping her at her house in a remote locality on Renigunta road. A panicked woman raised the alarm, whereupon her husband and neighbors apprehended him and beat him severely before handing him over to the police.
Circle Inspector Alipiri P. Ramakishore, who was on night duty at the time, took the accused into custody and obtained a one-year remand warrant for him from the local Tahsildar with an undertaking not to repeat similar offenses in future.
Reacting to the incident, Superintendent of Police L. Subbarayudu issued a strong warning to those who misbehaved with women.
In the same vein, the SP advised passengers to note down the rider’s name and vehicle number, share the details with their family and also always keep the live location sharing option on till the end of the journey. “Whenever possible, especially during night travel, choose a female rider for safety,” the SP added.
