The 13th Additional District and Sessions Court, Narasaraopet, on Tuesday (June 30, 2026) sentenced a man to life imprisonment for murdering a resident of Chilakaluripet in Palnadu district. The court also imposed a fine of ₹1,000 with a default sentence of one month’s simple imprisonment for failure to pay the fine.

According to Chilakaluripet city police, convict Akkala Chenchayya murdered Palaparthi Nagaraja on the night of January 2, 2025. Police said the crime stemmed from an alleged extra-marital affair between the deceased and the convict’s wife, which led to repeated disputes in the village panchayats.

Police said in a statement on Tuesday that Chenchayya, who had allegedly threatened to kill Nagaraju, conspired with his nephew Akkala Prabhudas and lured the victim to his rented house, where Nagaraju was allegedly attacked with a knife and had his throat slit before the accused fled.

Based on a complaint filed by the victim’s wife, Nagamma, Chilakaluripet Circle Inspector P. Ramesh registered a case under Section 103(1) read with Section 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and filed a charge sheet.

After hearing the arguments of additional public prosecutor GVS Prasad, Justice S. Ramesh found Chenchayya guilty and awarded him life imprisonment. Proceedings against the second accused, a juvenile, are ongoing in the Juvenile Justice Court. Police praised the prosecutor, investigators and court staff for securing the conviction by presenting the required evidence.
